matrix is a decentralized communication protocol featuring end-to-end encryption
like Signal, but won't require your phone number and no single central raidable server exists
matrix has its flaws and is still in development, but we believe it's important to break out of corporate silos
while XMPP offers a similarly decentralized (and potentially encrypted) network, matrix is friendlier out-of-the-box
